Sash window painting

Decoration should protect the timber while respecting the movement and detail of the window.

Preparation before the finish

Check the timber, glazing putty and existing paint. Decay, loose glazing or problems with operation may require repairs beyond decoration. Discuss these separately before planning the finish.

Choosing the specification

Agree the internal and external faces, colours and treatment of fittings. Do not assume a repaint includes overhaul, replacement cords or draught-proofing. Access to opening sashes and drying arrangements needs planning with the occupants.

Define the work in your quotation

The quotation should identify the surfaces, preparation, products, access and exclusions. Share photographs and the property address so that we can discuss the condition and arrange the next step.

  • Window numbers and painted faces
  • Putty and timber repair allowances
  • Access to each window
  • Fittings, seals and operation checks
