Period property painting

Decoration for older interiors and façades begins with understanding the existing fabric. Original plaster and joinery should inform the method.

Preparation before the finish

Record the features to retain before work starts. Earlier coatings, delicate mouldings and historic finishes may need specialist assessment. Avoid treating every old surface as suitable for the same preparation method.

Choosing the specification

For listed buildings and properties in conservation areas, check the relevant council guidance and any existing consents. The appropriate coating depends on the substrate and condition; a period colour name alone does not establish suitability.
