Painting on Kensington’s Notting Hill fringe
Around the Kensington-facing edge of Notting Hill, a useful brief is specific about the house, flat or mews and the finishes already in place.

The Pembridge edge
RBKC’s Pembridge appraisal places Notting Hill Gate on the conservation area’s southern edge. It records late Georgian and Victorian terraces, semi-detached houses and mews, with brick, stucco, timber windows and ironwork among the materials. A postcode or neighbourhood name alone cannot identify the controls affecting an individual building.

Joinery can connect a colour scheme
Begin with the surfaces that will remain: floorboards, fireplaces, fitted cupboards and existing doors. Review samples beside them and across adjoining rooms. Agree whether woodwork should match the walls or provide a different tone or sheen. List door edges, frames, skirting and cupboard interiors explicitly so that a colour discussion becomes a usable schedule.
Exterior colour is a separate decision
For a façade enquiry, send a photograph showing the adjoining frontage as well as close views of your surfaces. Identify anything previously unpainted and coatings that are failing. Keep exterior permissions and the interior palette as separate decisions. The consent guide sets out questions to resolve before ordering materials or disturbing historic decoration.
An occupied house or mews
Explain where furniture can go and which routes must stay open. In a compact home, the order of door, stair and wall work needs to account for daily access. Specify material storage and rooms recently furnished. Identify who moves delicate objects and when other trades will finish, so that the sequence can be discussed around the home’s actual use.
